In 1998 Dr. Spencer Johnson wrote the best-selling book "Who Moved My Cheese" describing the importance of anticipating and reacting positively to changes in the environment. The lessons in this thin, but provocative book apply to all organizations big and small, public and private. Simply put, successful organizations realize that a constantly changing environment is a fact of life and they react not out of a fear of change, but by taking advantage of the opportunities change offers.
Much of the success we celebrate at we can attribute to the organization's ability to constantly assess the regulatory, legislative and business atmosphere and develop programs and services that support our mission and are financially viable. We have dedicated over half a century to improving the quality of life of individuals with disabilities.
The achievements of the past year have been numerous and significant and have laid a solid foundation for the continued growth carrying Eggleston well into the 21st Century. Please note the following initiatives completed or in progress:
- The ongoing expansion of residential homes and employment programs on the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins campus has enabled Eggleston to positively impact the lives of dozens of Hampton and Newport News associates and their families.
- The expansion of the Eggleston Automotive Center, focal point for the auto donation program which offers new automotive servicse to the community while creating jobs for our associates.
- The Tanners Creek Horticultural Services and Creekside Cafe allow Eggleston to further educate the Hampton Roads community about our services while making available an enticing environment to purchase plants and enjoy good food and company.
- The Seniors Program and the All State Insurance sponsored "Circle of Friends" group provide leisure activities and training opportunities to improve the overall quality of life for Eggleston associates.
- The document destruction division opens new avenues to contract and partner with multiple businesses in the Hampton Roads community while offering additional employment opportunities.
- Eggleston's sponsorship of the Wright Brothers documentary "Nick, Luke and Linda" resulted in an award-winning film destined to raise community awareness of the needs of individuals with disabilities and provide training for professionals entering the human service field.
On behalf of the Board of Directors I want to thank the Eggleston employees who made this all happen and who day in and day out work so effectively to carry out the mission of Eggleston Services. I would also like to thank Paul Atkinson and the management team for the leadership and stewardship they provide in making Eggleston Services a nationally recognized program. Finally, I would like to thank all those in the Hampton Roads community who serve as our business partners and collaborators who do so much to provide employment and leisure opportunities for all of Eggleston's employees and associates. |
