Eggleston Services host volunteers from four United Methodist Churches

On July 31, 2000, Eggleston Services was host to approximately 80 youth and adult volunteers from four United Methodist Churches located Throughout Tidewater, Virginia. This outreach project was sponsored by Sandbridge Community Chapel, Courthouse Community, Charity, and Virginia Beach United Methodist Churches.

Eggleston's various sites were fortunate to have such an energetic and motivated team of volunteers. Tanners Creek was host to two teams of about 30 volunteers. One group of 10 was responsible for the washing and detailing of several passenger vans. Another team of 20 volunteers cut back 576 buddleia (butterfly bushes), cleaned out the greenhouses, and picked 94 pounds of vegetables from the community garden at the zoo (to be used by the foodbank).

The remaining 50 volunteers 'attacked' projects at our Tidewater Drive location. About 10 volunteers cleaned both the front flowerbeds of weeds and roots in preparation for a perennial garden and 20 volunteers did job partnering with employees from business services helping with quality control. 10+ volunteers had the most unpleasant job of removing illegally dumped roofing materials and trash from the swamp in back of our Tidewater Drive location and these folks still were able to smile all the way through it. Although they were only here 4 hours that day, they were able to complete a months worth of odd jobs! Thanks for all your help and come back again any time.
