Laundry Services
With a 1.2 million dollar loan from Bank of America and a commitment by the
Navy to set-aside laundry work from the Naval Hospital using the JWOD Act (now known as AbilityOne),
Eggleston built its first laundry in 1992. This first entry into laundry
processing began in the original building donated by Louise Eggleston at 20th &
Colley Avenue in Norfolk's Ghent Section. Visiting the Hospital twice a day in
our single laundry truck, we started processing an annual 1.7 million pounds of
healthcare linen for the Navy.
Today, in a state of the art facility twice the size of
the original, we process nearly 6 million pounds of laundry per year for local
hospitals, the Navy, Army and Coast Guard. Now an entire fleet of bright
white trucks travel as far away as Petersburg's Fort Lee to service 29 customer
accounts. More than 60 jobs have been created with this project with revenue
surpassing 2.7 million dollars.
