Making a Difference One School at a Time!

Safe driving presentation

For the last 18 years 3 of the members of Beacon House have been traveling to local high schools to talk with students making good choices while driving such as not driving under the influence nor getting in the car with someone who has been drinking, driving fatigued  or road rage.   Members share their stories of how one poor decision led to their brain injury and changed their life forever.  The gentlemen tell the students what their lives were like before the accident and what it has been like since.

Since most Hampton Roads schools are starting virtually this year the team at Beacon House decided to take their presentation virtual as well.  Thanks to a grant from the City of Virginia Beach and Brandon Mitchell Films, they were able to record the members giving their presentation which will be sent to the schools to show students.  They will then set up bi-monthly video calls so students and faculty can ask questions and interact with the members.  So far they have presented to more than 75,000 students at 14 local high schools and with the help of the City of Virginia Beach and Brandon Mitchell Films that number will continue to grow.

Auction Tips

  • Come to the auction preview days prior to auction day
  • Evaluate vehicles that may interest you; they are sold “as is”.
  • Prior to the auction review all rules and regulations
  • Register in advance to avoid delays the morning of the auction
  • Eggleston does not offer temporary tags
  • Bring proper ID and funds to cover the registration fee. We accept cash, certified check, money order and major credit cards (3% charge applies).
  • Tow vehicles from our sale to your residence or a repair facility to avoid unforeseen issues when leaving the auction
  • Bring someone who is knowledgeable about cars to the preview to assist you in the evaluation of the vehicles, if you are not able to perform an evaluation

All of us at Eggleston are so proud of Tim Giles, Program Manager of Warrior Bridge, for being honored today at the “Still Serving” awards hosted by Military Newspapers of Virginia MNV and Flagship. Tim was in great company with veterans from all across Hampton Roads who choose to “Still Serve” their community with all that they do. From fostering dogs, saving lives and teaching health and wellness to helping at-risk children and our homeless, these folks live life in the service of others. And Tim Giles is no different! Tim helps all of us at Eggleston aspire to do more and be the best we can in our daily roles here in the office and out in our community. Tim is a Warrior for our Veterans every day; he helps those who cannot always help themselves with a leg up and a hand on their back just when they need it most. Please help us to congratulate Tim on a well-deserved honor and thank him for his continued service to our community and our Veterans.

We held a grand opening for our newest Portsmouth Laundry Facility on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Eggleston Services and local leaders cut the ribbon for the facility on 7th street in Portsmouth. The facility will help Eggleston service contracts to provide laundry services for regional businesses and federal partners, such as the Portsmouth Naval hospital and different military bases.

“We have to appreciate what this facility will be to that population in this area and this is a good step in the right direction toward closing the gap,” said Denny Wance, Eggleston’s chairman of the Board of Directors.

  5. What was your job in the military? “Construction Mechanic Petty Officer First Class. I was responsible for the repairs and maintenance of all heavy construction and automotive equipment. “

  7. What is your most memorable moment in the military? “My final tour in the Navy serving with the Navy Seal Team Six was the best experience of my entire career.”
  8. How did the military benefit you personally and professionally? “The military provided me with an education, training and skills to succeed as a professional.”

  4. What made you decide to join the military? “My Uncle was a veteran and wounded warrior, I was inspired to join the Army and continue the family legacy of service. I also desired to be a part of something greater than myself”
  5. What was your job in the military? “I was responsible for Finance, ensuring that all Soldiers were paid accurately and on time which of course impacted unit readiness and their families quality of life “
  6. What commands were you assigned to? “Fort Bragg Army Base with 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper and also the 7th Transportation Battalion.”
  7. What is your most memorable moment in the military? “My most valued experience was hosting an Iraqi women’s day event while forward deployed in 2009 that highlighted the “strength of women.”
  8. How did the military benefit you personally and professionally? “The military provided me the opportunity to travel and experience diverse cultures. It also provided me with a career and leadership training.”

The three finalists in the annual Halloween Decorating contest in Day Support were: Civitan Day Services, Military Highway Day Services, and Tidewater Drive Day Services. Every single site was brilliant and beautiful, yet very original creative and unique! We had 4 Judges visit each site and score the teams based on three areas: creativity, associate involvement, and overall Halloween feel. After the scores were tallied the judges realized just how close the scores were – and it was a tough decision to pick our winner!

Tidewater Drive did a fantastic job and hands down was the scariest site of all! Civitan was like seeing a Broadway musical! All the judges loved the theatrics and the City of Oz theme!  However, as we all say, “There can only be one winner!” And this year’s winner is Military Highway Day Services. All the sites were creative and had associate involvement. However, Military Highway edged out the competition in the end. They scored high in creativity and participation with all the amazing handmade decorations by the associates.

Thank you for those who participated, and everyone should start planning for next year’s competition right now! Tidewater Drive, please prepare the mummy award from last year to be transported to Military Highway. Congratulations again Military Highway! Enjoy your award and bragging rights until next year!
