    Volunteer Time

  • Volunteer opportunities are available throughout all levels of our organization for individuals, corporations, civic groups, and military members. Children ages 12-17 are welcome to volunteer with a parent or guardian. Check out the different ways you can volunteer below, sign up for volunteer specific emails, and check out our volunteer postings on Volunteer Hampton Roads!

  • Virtual Volunteers

  • Virtual Volunteer opportunities can be completed from the comfort of your home, or even your desk, as many of these tasks are suitable for organizations as well! Contact our volunteer coordinator at 757-858-8011 to learn more.

    • Talk, Text, Connect:
Think PenPal, but using digital technology! Become a friend or mentor to one of our residents and day program participants. To get started fill out the form below
    • Virtual Fundraiser:
Angel Tree: During the end-of-year holidays many of our residents and day program participants do not have family outside of Eggleston. Consider becoming an angel for someone in need. Click here to sign up.
  • Support Volunteers

  • Our support volunteer opportunities work directly with…

    • Camp Civitan:
Each summer over 8-10 weeks, Eggleston hosts camp for nearly 200 adults with disabilities. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, from preparing camp to assisting campers in activities. Individuals and groups are welcome.
    • Day Program and Residential Special Events:
Volunteers make our special events and celebrations much brighter for our day program and residential facilities. Individuals and small groups can help decorate for holidays and birthdays, wrap presents for Christmas in July, serve Thanksgiving dinner, and much more!
  • Business Service Volunteers

  • Our business services not only provide jobs for the individuals we serve but also provide funding for all of our support services, like Camp Civitan and Beacon House. Volunteer opportunities are often seasonal.

    • Community Garden:
Eggleston’s Community Garden is excited to welcome our local community to help in diminishing food deserts in the Norfolk region. Volunteers are needed for all aspects of the farming process. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a farmer all of your life or you have never picked up a cultivator (yes, we’ll explain what that is and how to use it!), our staff of experts will guide the process and create a safe environment for everyone to enjoy giving back to the community. Have a lot of experience? You can even “Adopt a Row” and work independently on your very own crop. We’ll supply the dirt and the water! One-time and ongoing opportunities are available and shifts are flexible within our hours of operation.
    • Christmas Tree Farm:
Each year our Garden Center needs help with it’s annual tree sale from mid-November until mid-December. Fill out the form below to learn more!
  • Annual OK5K Walk, Run, and Stroll

  • Every year in June, we host the Eggleston OK5K Walk, Run, and Stroll. This is a jam-packed day of fun to raise awareness and much-needed funds for our mission. We rely on approximately 75 volunteers each year to make this event possible. Help is needed in all aspects of the event, from registration to pushing participants in wheelchairs through the course. Shifts are filled on a first come, first served basis. Interested individuals or groups can sign up anytime here.

  • Group Projects

  • Large group volunteer opportunities (10-15 individuals) can be arranged for corporations, organizations, civic groups, or military personnel interested in donating time to our mission. Our Volunteer Manager will coordinate a special project to accommodate your group so you can make the most out of your time with us. We can also schedule facility tours and/or speakers into your day to further educate your team on our work. We ask that you reach out at least 6 weeks before your desired volunteer date for planning and logistics.

    • United Way Day of Caring:
United Way Day of Caring is on September 18, 2020. Small group and virtual volunteer opportunities are available.
  • Do you have any special skills or talents that could help further our mission? We are always looking for new, engaging activities for our clients with disabilities. We also need individuals with specific skill sets to support departments across our organization. Here are a few ways you can donate your skills and talent:

    • Music and Art Therapy:
Are you a singer, dancer, poet or have other skills that you could entertain or engage our clients with disabilities?
    • Facility and Administrative Support:
We have varying needs that include organization, filing, beautification, and facility maintenance.
    • Committee and Board Membership:
We are always seeking community leaders to help guide and lead our organization by serving on our Board of Directors or a committee. Contact Danielle Nance at Dnance@egglestonservices.org to learn more.
