- What was your job in the military? “I was a Boatswain Mate Third Class Petty Officer responsible for the upkeep of ship’s external structure, painting rigging, deck equipment and small boats.”

- What is your most memorable moment in the military? “The opportunity to walk the streets of Rome and experience the culture and architect inspired and stimulated my appreciation for art. As a young artist, it was my moment of confirmation.”
- How did the military benefit you personally and professionally? “The military created structure and purpose in my life. I acquired leadership skills and self-discipline which rescued me from a life of self-destructive behavior.”
