Thank You!

Earlier this year Eggleston launched a capital campaign, making the renovation of it’s newest space possible. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the new flagship location in Norfolk is expanding and enhancing two programs that combined serve nearly 200 adults with disabilities in Hampton Roads each year. Formerly the Virginia Employment Commission, the new 18,000 square foot, two-story building houses Eggleston’s brain injury services and veteran services programs. The second floor provides much needed space for Eggleston staff.
In April, we celebrated our newest location with an outdoor ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house event. On behalf of us all at Eggleston, we would like to give special thanks to Taylor Construction for sponsoring the event; and to TowenBank Executive Chairman G. Robert Aston, Jr., City of Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, and Congressman Bobby Scott for helping to mark this milestone event with their kind remarks.
Below you will find pictures, videos, and further information about the newest location and the ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house.
Thank you for supporting Eggleston and being a part of our growth.
Sincerely,

Eggleston wishes to express its gratitude to the following companies and organizations for their recent, generous contributions:
TowneBank and Landmark Foundation whose capital campaign leadership gifts will expand and enhance services for adults with disabilities in Hampton Roads
USAA for supporting programs that help adults with disabilities gain employment
City of Chesapeake Human Services Department for supporting day and leisure
programming for seniors with disabilities
Norfolk Rotary Club whose grant support is helping purchase appliances for the new brain injury clubhouse program space
And, our Give Local 757 supporters: YOU did it! You gave in support of programs and services that make a difference for our neighbors with disabilities – THANK YOU. We’re so grateful for your generosity!

After more than 20 years leasing space in Virginia Beach for its brain injury program, Eggleston now has its own building in Norfolk to house operations. In early 2020 we received notice that the property we were leasing was to be sold and rezoned for new development.
“We needed to move quickly and recognized the opportunity in front of us to expand and enhance our Brain Injury Services and Warrior Bridge Veterans programs,” said CEO Paul Atkinson Sr. “The former Virginia Employment Commission building proved to be the right location and thanks to the generosity of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation and a number of donors this expansion is being made possible.”
The new facility at 5145 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. will also contain our Warrior Bridge program and will serve as Eggleston’s new headquarters.
Each year, Eggleston’s Brain Injury Services (BIS) and Warrior Bridge Veteran’s programs serve nearly 200 adults with disabilities in Hampton Roads by providing intensive services, case management, and vocational rehabilitation to empower people with disabilities. To learn more about these programs and the new facility, please check out the recent article in Inside Business.
On behalf of the Eggleston team, board of directors, and all those we serve – Thank You to everyone who celebrated with us! Special thanks to City of Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, Congressman Bobby Scott, and Executive Chairman of TowneBank G. Robert Aston, Jr. for commemorating this special day with their kind remarks; and to Taylor Construction for generously sponsoring the event.
Here are some highlight from the event.

Norfolk, VA – Eggleston will celebrate the opening of its new brain injury services and warrior bridge program location with donors, staff, and local leaders on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The new site, located at 5145 E. Virginia Beach Boulevard in Norfolk across from the Union Mission, will also serve as Eggleston’s new headquarters.
Each year, Eggleston’s Brain Injury Services (BIS) and Warrior Bridge Veteran’s programs serve nearly 200 adults with disabilities in Hampton Roads by providing intensive services, case management, and vocational rehabilitation to empower people with disabilities.
During this month’s outdoor event, attendees will meet and hear from individuals who benefit from Eggleston’s mission. Small, masked tours of the new facility will be offered before and after a ribbon cutting ceremony with special guest’s remarks at 1:00 p.m.
Eggleston’s BIS program has provided services from leased space in Virginia Beach for more than twenty years. In early 2020 the organization received notice that the property was to be sold and rezoned for new development.
“We needed to move quickly and recognized the opportunity in front of us to expand and enhance our Brain Injury Services and Warrior Bridge Veterans programs,” said CEO Paul Atkinson Sr. “The former Virginia Employment Commission building proved to be the right location and thanks to the generosity of the and a number of donors this expansion is being made possible.”
After several delays due to COVID-19, Eggleston purchased its new location in 2020 and contracted Taylor Construction to retrofit the space. The 18,000 square foot building will double the space for Eggleston’s BIS program. It also increases access for those with transportation barriers and has an enhanced layout with improved accessibility for those with disabilities. The second floor has ample meeting space and offices for administrative and program staff.

The past year or so has brought about a time like we have never seen before. With quarantines, masks, and social distancing it can sometimes be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Last week many of our associates and staff were able to take one step closer to the that light by receiving their 2nd dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Everyone has their own reason for wanting to take this important step and here are a few of those reasons.

In October 2020, George was referred to Eggleston’s Collaborative Community Connections (C3) program, which is dedicated to ensuring that vulnerable populations, specifically individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness have the opportunity for viable employment.
During his initial intake meeting, George shared with Mary Clark, his Eggleston C3 coordinator, he only agreed to meet because his transitional housing agreement requires all occupants to work. “George seemed petulant and moody at first. I wasn’t sure how things would go with George, but then I got the right call from a local employer” said Mary.

On November 23, 2020, Mary received a call from Madison Hahn at CozyPure. They were looking to fill an entry-level position picking apart compressed natural latex LaNoodles used in many of their products.
One week later, George and Mary toured Cozy Pure, and George completed a working interview. During the tour, George was smiling and laughing; and when the owner asked if he had any questions, his reply was: “When can I start?” George was hired on the spot and started the very next day.
After George’s first day of work, he appeared excited about his job and shared with Mary what a great day he had. On his second day, he talked about how nice it was to get out of his room, having something to do, and how nice all the staff were at work.
Today, George works five days-a-week. He is responsible for separating, by-hand, the natural latex LaNoodles used in organic pillows and organic mattress toppers. He is also learning to sew so that he can jump in and help out in other parts of the business when they need him.
